MICHAEL MOORE MESSAGE SAVE THE CEO’S TEASER TRAILER VIDEO Read alsoMichael Moore thrives on being controversial. Moviegoers expecting to see “The Hangover” on Friday night were in for a surprise when the director instigated his latest publicity stunt at Lincoln Center’s AMC theater. A video crew filmed the audience’s reaction to a special teaser for Moore’s yet-untitled Overture Films documentary (which premieres Oct. 2) in which the director − in a prerecorded message − requested the crowd to donate money to Citibank, Bank of America, AIG, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan.
“The downturn in the economy has hurt many people. People who have had no choice but to go on government assistance, yet our welfare agencies can only do so much. That’s why I’m asking you to lend a hand. Won’t you please give generously?” he beseeched, adding, “Now, I know what you’re thinking, ‘I already gave at the bailout’, and I know you did. But even if you’ve given in the past, give some more. It’ll make you feel . . . good.”
Unsurprisingly, very few people dipped into their pockets when ushers wearing “Save our CEO’s” T-shirts walked down the aisles asking for money. [NYDN]
