The ESPN baseball analyst, who was fired Sunday for his dalliance with a young production assistant, entered a rehab center for treatment on Monday, his agent confirmed.
“This was planned in advance. It has nothing to do with him getting fired,” agent Steve Lefkowitz said of the rehab. “He’s trying to save his marriage.”
Brooke Hundley, the other party in the sordid three-night stand, also lost her ESPN job on Monday.
“Brooke Hundley is no longer working here,” said ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz. “She was fired today.”
The Ithaca College graduate had worked in remote game production since Sept. 2008.
Phillips, “Baseball Tonight” analyst, was disappointed that ESPN let him go, Lefkowitz said.
Phillips was notified just minutes before the news was made public during Game 6 of the American League Champion Series.
After the affair ended in July, the 22-year-old Hundley reportedly stalked Phillips’ son on Facebook, called his wife, Marni, and even wrote her a tawdry letter.
