Pop star Rihanna is finally speaking out in a candid interview with Diane Sawyer.  Tune in tomorrow morning to watch part 2.  Rihanna breaks her silence about the Chris Brown assault and admits she feels embarrassed for returning to her former lover because Chris Brown had abused her 8 or 9 times before she left him.  Poor Rihanna was close to tears and admits that she felt even worse because she is only human and everyone has put her on a pedestal. We hope Rihanna is getting help to cope with her feelings.

Chris “Beatdown” Brown is doing more interviews to spin some PR damage control by sitting down with Sway on MTV.  Chris Brown doesn’t really shed any more light on his side of the story because he has still not been sincere about any wrong doing. All Chris Brown can say is how he is “confused” about how this all happened after his mother didn’t tell the whole truth on Larry King about his history with domestic violence.

While Rihanna granted ABC’s Diane Sawyer an interview about her February assault by her former boyfriend Chris Brown, Brown has taped a segment for MTV in which he addresses the beating that led to his guilty plea to a felony assault charge.

“My thoughts [when I look back on it now] is like, ‘Why did it happen?’ Like, ‘What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?’ That’s what I’m thinking with myself. That’s what my thoughts are, basically, now,” the R&B musician, 20, says in excerpts released on MTV.com.

Now, Brown says, he’s ready to move on. “It’s like, ‘How do we get past it? How do you, Chris’ – talking to myself – ‘how do you go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistakes, turn it into a positive and help other people with the situation, and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?’ ”

Speaking to MTV correspondent Sway Calloway over the course of the one-hour interview, set to air Friday at 6 p.m., Brown says he is now in group therapy. Asked what sparked the assault, Brown replies, “Just anger … Yeah, anger … Young people, we do before we think.” [source]

The full Rihanna interview airs Friday on 20/20.

“It’s completely normal to go back. You start lying to yourself,” the 21-year-old singer said on “Good Morning America” in her first public comments following the beating. “I’ll say that to any young girl who is going through domestic violence: ‘Don’t react off of love.’”

Brown, 20, was arrested Feb. 8, hours after he was accused of beating Rihanna after the couple attended a pre-Grammy Awards party. He later pleaded guilty to felony assault and a judge ordered Brown and Rihanna to stay away from each other.

In the interview, Rihanna said she was ashamed to return to Brown after the attack. “That’s embarrassing – that’s the type of person I fell in love with. So far in love, so unconditional, that I went back,” she said. “That’s not what I want to teach people.”

The attack occurred in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park neighborhood as Brown drove a rented sports car. A Los Angeles police detective described a brutal attack in a search warrant affidavit filed in the case, stating Brown hit, choked and bit Rihanna and tried at one point to push her from the car. A photo of her bruised face was circulated on the Internet.

Rihanna said she soon realized that, as a role model to young women, her returning to Brown sent the wrong message. “When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I could not be held responsible for telling them, ‘Go back.’”

Brown’s career suffered after his arrest, with sponsors dropping him and radio stations refusing to play his music. Both he and Rihanna had to cancel several high-profile appearances, including planned performances at the Grammy Awards the day of the attack.

Brown has apologized to fans and has said he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna for the attack.

In the interview Thursday, she said: “I am strong. This happened to me. I didn’t cause this. I didn’t do it. This can happen to me and it can happen to anybody.” [source]
